Final Quinnipiac Poll Shows Lead Shift In Presidential Race, Widening Lead In US Senate Race

Statehouse News Bureau

The final Quinnipiac polls are out, and they show some changes for the races at the top of the ticket in Ohio – most notably, between Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Hillary Clinton.

The presidential poll released Wednesday showed a lead shift to Trump – he and Clinton were tied at 45% last month, but now Trump leads Clinton by 5 points. And one big change was with women voters – in last month’s poll, Clinton had a 12 point lead over Trump with women voters. Now women voters are split at 44% between the candidates. And Trump’s 18 points with independents is another factor in his overall lead. Eighteen points is also the lead that incumbent Republican US Sen. Rob Portman has over Democratic challenger and former Gov. Ted Strickland. Portman led Strickland by 13 points last month, and Portman now is the favorite with women, men and independents.
