The Environmental Protection Agency says the air isn't as clean as it should be. The agency has proposed new standards for smog across the US, proposing to require reducing the level of smog in the air by as much as 17 percent. Ohio EPA director Chris Korleski says it's only a proposal for now, but he expects that people will have to make some changes, no matter what the EPA decides.
And Korleski says the new standard could mean changes in Ohio, which may challenge people to think about how they might be part of the problem.
Thirty-three Ohio counties are not meeting federal clean air guidelines right now, but only seven counties in northeast Ohio have to conduct auto emissions testing to try to improve their air quality. The US EPA will take hold public hearings and tape input for 90 days before making its final decision. |
