This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

A longtime former state official has joined the crowded field in the contest for the seat formerly held by convicted Congressman Bob Ney. Former Agriculture Director Fred Dailey is one of five Republicans hoping for the chance to unseat Democrat Zack Space in the 18th Congressional District, which serves sixteen counties in Southeast Ohio.
Dailey says he's concerned with Congress right now and has plans to tackle issues with energy independence and immigration, and the war in Iraq.
Dailey is a Vietnam Veteran, served as an Air Marshall, and was the longest serving Director of Agriculture in Ohio for sixteen years under Gov. Bob Taft. Dailey last ran for office during the Watergate years, and he's never served in an elected position. |
