Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

AG announces multi-state crackdown and reward to stop brutal sport of dogfighting.
By Karen Kasler - November 7, 2007
Dogfighting is a felony in Ohio and 47 other states, but the brutal sport is still alive throughout the state. Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann is hoping to battle dogfighting with a multi-state effort from law enforcement and the Humane Society of the United States, and hopefully the help of people who know the key players in dogfighting circles. Dann says a toll-free hotline has been set up to take in tips, which could lead to a $5,000 reward if the tip leads to a conviction. Dann says he's confident that the dollar amount, though fairly low, will convince people with information to come forward.

One of the largest dogfighting ring ever busted in the United States was operating in southwest Ohio. Twenty-five people and spectators were arrested in that raid in March. Dozens of dogs were seized and seven fighting dog kennels in the Cincinnati and Dayton areas were also busted. Dann says tipsters can submit information by calling 877-AG-4-OHIO or by going to his website, ag.state.oh.us.
