Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Rider leading one of three Ohio groups in inaugural parade "overwhelmed" at history, security.
By Karen Kasler - January 19, 2009
Thousands of Ohioans are in Washington for the historic inauguration of Barack Obama, including several school groups, many tourists, and three organizations that are appearing in the inaugural parade. One of those is Southern Ohio Ladies Aside, a 20-member group of equestrians who ride side-saddle in costumes modeled after Civil War clothing. Maggie Herlinsky of Waverly calls herself the "chief cat-herder" of the laid-back group. She says though marching in the inaugural parade is exciting in theory, as it's happening it's just another show.

And Herlinsky says the group applied months ago to be a part of the parade, and when they were invited to perform last month, they found they were already behind in their planning.

Two other parade veterans from Ohio will also be in the parade - the 40 member Cleveland Firefighters Memorial Pipes and Drums will participate, as well as the Ohio State University Marching Band.
