Several Democratic mayors are in Washington for the Obama inauguration. Youngstown Mayor Jay Williams was the First African American Mayor elected to that city and says this is a special moment for him as another first takes place in the inauguration of an African American President.
African American Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory says this inauguration is special for him and for the entire nation.
But the mayors are also concerned about a report from the US Conference of Mayors, which expects double-digit unemployment in some Ohio cities, including Cleveland, Toledo and Youngtown. Mayor Williams says he can't wait for President Obama's first major initiative, the stimulus package that he says will help many Ohio cities.
The report estimates a 12.1% jobless rate in Toledo, 11% in Youngstown and Dayton and over 10% in Cleveland. The jobless rate in Akron is expected to hit 9.9%, and to go to 8.9% in Cincinnati and Columbus.
