Disappointing state and local leaders, DHL does as expected and ships out the rest of its jobs.
By Jo Ingles - April 17, 2009
Ohio's leaders say they are disappointed with shipping giant DHL's decision to close the last part of its remaining operations in Wilmington. Interim Development Director Mark Barbash says this is bad news for the southwest Ohio town that's already been hard hit when DHL pulled more than 8,000 jobs late last year. But Barbash says Ohio isn't completely losing out in the deal. He says the company's decision not to contract its work with United Parcel Service means DHL will be locating a small number of jobs in Covington Kentucky at the Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Airport.

Barbash says the state is continuing ongoing talks with DHL to try to convince the company to donate the Wilmington Air Park to the community. He says that would give the community the chance to use it for other economic development projects.
