Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. State hopes to stop total shutdown of plant that is closing the door on cabinet making.
By Fred Kight - May 13, 2010
Gov. Ted Strickland has just announced that the state has awarded a $50,000 grant to assist workers at two Mill's Pride cabinetry factories in Pike County that are expected to close next year. Strickland says the investment "will provide workers with training and other resources while we continue working with local leaders to secure a buyer for this facility." Strickland went to Waverly for a meeting of the Pike County Economic Development Task Force. Officials talked about how the state can assist the community with job retention, workforce development and finding potential buyers for the facilities. Can they do stop the plants from closing? Ohio Department of Development Director Lisa Patt-McDaniel is optimistic they can.

Patt-McDaniel is co-chair of the Pike County Task Force, along with Pike County Commissioner Blaine Beekman.
