Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. ODOT uses federal green to buy green buses for transit authorities around the state.
By Karen Kasler - June 9, 2010
The state is spending $15 million in federal transportation money to buy new "green" buses for regional transit authorities around Ohio. ODOT brought 41 buses for 11 local and regional systems in Akron, Central Ohio, Cincinnati, Dayton, Springfield and Toledo as well as Clermont, Miami, Portage, Stark and Washington Counties. ODOT's Scott Varner says the purchase includes several kinds of buses.

Varner says ODOT received $33 million in requests, and awarded these buses to not just to cities but also to more rural areas where there's a need for more public transit.
