New Speaker has plan to keep recent college grads who earn degrees in Ohio here.
By Bill Cohen - January 4, 2011
Ohioans who earn college degrees here and stay here for awhile won’t have to pay any state income tax for five years, if Republicans who now control the Ohio House of Representatives get their way. Bill Batchelder is the new Speaker of the House. He says this tax credit plan could help Ohio slow down the “brain drain”, and he says it’s just one of TWO tax break ideas that GOP legislators want to make a priority to help boost the economy.

Batchelder made his comments on the proposed tax breaks on public radio station WCPN this morning. Another priority of the new Republican majority in the legislature --- repealing ohio’s estate tax. GOP legislators insist they can lower some taxes at the same time that they fill a projected 8 to 10 billion dollar budget shortfall.

Speaker Bill Batchelder (R-Medina) (:22)
