Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Lieutenant governor takes center stage at committee in role as "regulation czar".
By Jo Ingles - February 8, 2011
A state Senate committee is working on a bill that would require new rules and re-authorization of existing ones be approved by state leaders only after the regulations are thoroughly reviewed for their impacts on businesses. Lt. Gov. Mary Taylor says this is a common sense solution to a problem that exists now where Ohio businesses are facing unnecessary regulations that make they non competitive.

One example that was given was a business in northern Ohio that makes commercial sauces. It uses alcohol in its recipes but because of an Ohio law, it must pay retail and cannot buy it in the correct quantities. The company says these rules mean it costs more to manufacture the product in Ohio. Taylor says that rule should be abandoned.
