This week on "The State of Ohio": The budget is on its way to a committee that will hammer out the differences before the end of the month deadline. But there are serious issues on both sides that could slow down the talks. A billion dollars is headed back to Ohio employers who paid into the state’s Bureau of Workers' Comp program. But a critic says the BWC has an outstanding bill that remains unpaid. And more on how Ohio's poorest people are surviving the rising costs of a basic existence.

Criticism building among school districts for attempt to expand voucher program outside urban areas.
September 29, 2011
Ohio school districts and boards of education are lobbying against a bill that would expand Ohio’s school voucher program from urban areas to the entire state. The bill would deduct about $5,800 dollars from a school district’s state aid for each student who gets a voucher for tuition at a private school. State Representative Matt Huffman is the bill’s sponsor. He says he’s not surprised by the objections.

School districts opposing the voucher expansion include Akron and Mentor. The Catholic Conference of Ohio also has reservations about the expansion.

Rep. Matt Huffman (R-Lima) (:10)
