President Obama comes to Ohio a 17th time, introduces former AG as controversial appointee.

President Barack Obama used a Northeast Ohio visit today to announce he’s bypassing Republicans who’ve blocked his pick for consumer financial protection chief. Following a six-month delay in confirming former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray to the new position, Mr. Obama appointed him without the Senate’s approval. The president can by-pass Congress when that body is in recess. But Cordray’s confirmation is drawing fire because the Senate is on winter break, which is not officially a recess. Kevin Niedermier of member station WKSU says the President was unapologetic during his visit to Shaker Heights High School.
