Democrat questions whether delay in road projects is an excuse to lease the Ohio Turnpike.

The announcement that some of the state’s road projects will be delayed for another 10 years or more is drawing mixed reactions from state lawmakers. The leader of Democrats in the Ohio House, Armond Budish, says he wonders why the Department of Transportation is scaling back so drastically all of a sudden.

Republican Senate President Tom Niehaus fires back on that point.

Niehaus says the department of transportation has been running out of money for years. Republican Speaker Bill Batchelder says governors cannot promise money they don’t have. He says suspending projects is the responsible thing to do right now.
