Fracking in Ohio will have tough regulations, says Kasich.
By Bill Cohen - January 26, 2012
Gov. John Kasich is promising tough new rules on oil and gas drilling in Ohio that uses the relatively new technique called horizontal fracking. That's where shafts are drilled parallel to the land's surface, chemical-laden water is pumped in under high pressure, and the fuel that's trapped inside underground shale is released. Environmental groups worry about soil and water pollution, but Kasich says he will propose within two months -- a set of new rules that could resolve their fears.
Gov. John Kasich (:21)
The governor predicts if Ohio joins a potential fracking boom, it could create tens of thousands of new jobs here.
