A controversial education plan that, among other things, requires teacher evaluations and requires third graders to pass reading tests has passed the Ohio Senate. Republican Sen. Peggy Lehner says she hopes lawmakers will make sure $13 million from lottery profits will also go along with the plan to help with reading intervention efforts.
The bill, that passed the Ohio Senate by a 30-2 margin, requires third graders to pass a reading test before they can be promoted to the fourth grade. The plan now goes to the Ohio House for consideration. |
