For years, its been clear that Ohio produces a lot of dangerous chemical waste, and some of it winds up in the air and water. Now, theres even more evidence
and its coming from an international environmental agency. The Commission for Environmental Cooperation was set up by the U.S., Mexico, and Canada, in the wake of the NAFTA trade agreement. The commissions director, Victor Shantora, tells Ohio Public Radios Bill Cohen, Ohio and just a handful of other states produce the largest chunk of hazardous waste. |

| That is Victor Shantora, head of the Commission for Environmental Cooperation. His agency’s latest environmental study shows that, a few years ago, Ohio and other states sent a lot of pollution and waste northward to Canada, but now, that trend has been reversed. Canada is now a net exporter of toxic chemicals. |
