If some Ohio judges and legislators have their way, parents who endanger their children by locking them inside cars when its very hot or very cold will spend more time in jail. State Representative Jim Hughes has just introduced a bill to crack down on careless parents. In an interview with Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen, Hughes notes that one juvenile judge is dealing with several examples, just in the Columbus area alone. Hughes notes that researchers for General Motors have compiled a scary statistic --- since 1996, 150 children have died after being left alone in cars and trucks in very hot weather. |
