| All Ohio Gas Companies Chip In For Nearpoor's Gas Bills. |
|
By Bill Cohen - January 29, 2001 |

Many Ohio families are facing winter heating bills that are twice as big as last year. That's because the price of natural gas has soared, and colder temperatures have sparked people to use more of the fuel.
Some government programs are helping the poor pay part of their monthly gas bills, but Governor Taft says that's not enough. He's asked Ohio gas utilities to chip in money to help families and senior citizens with incomes as high as twice the official poverty level.
Now, the gas companies have agreed. Cincinnati Gas and Electric, for example, is donating $500,000. CG&E spokesman Steve Brash was questioned about it by statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen. |

| In addition to CG&E's contribution of $500,000, Columbia Gas is giving $3.5 million to help the near-poor pay this winter's gas bills. |
