Governor Bob Taft says spending on non-school programs in his proposed two-year
state budget will have to be cut $600 million. His cabinet members think they
can find the money to cut, but social welfare activists say the cuts will be a
disaster, especially for the poor. Statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen has the
