Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Senate OK's Anti-Terrorism Law.
January 23, 2002
The Ohio Senate passed a bill Wednesday making terrorism a crime in the state, but not before Democrats tried to slip in an anti-gun proposal. Cleveland Democratic Senator Eric Fingerhut proposed an amendment to force people to go through background checks before they purchase a weapon at a gun show. Fingerhut says the gun show loophole provides terrorist organizations cover when buying weapons.

Gun advocates reacted strongly to Fingerhuts amendment. Republican Lynn Watchtmann.

Watchtmann says it is wrong to connect law abiding gun buyers with terrorists. He says most gun owners might use their guns to defend themselves from terrorists, not to aid them. Republicans tabled Fingerhut's amendment. The Senate then voted unanimously to make terrorism a crime.
