The Ohio Chamber of Commerce today unveiled its own study of the state’s economy. The report shows Ohio ranks well above average among the states in its infrastructure and its research capabilities. But it says Ohio businesses face more problems than their counterparts in most other states because of high taxes and government regulations. Overall, Ohio is fairly average, according to the chamber study, but the group’s president-elect, Niles Overly, says the state has to do better, if it wants the economy to boom. The Chamber of Commerce acknowledges there have been dozens of studies of Ohio’s economy, and there are also economic indicators that are constantly being updated monthly, such as the state’s unemployment rate. But chamber officials say their study is the first independent one that pulls eight different economic factors into one report. |
