Watch This Week's "The State of Ohio" Online
Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Bill introduced to toughen penalties for drugged drivers.
By Jo Ingles - January 28, 2005
Currently in Ohio, a person can be arrested for Driving Under the Influence if his or her blood alcohol content is .08. But there is no such standard for someone accused of driving while impaired by drugs. State Senator Steve Austria (R-Beavercreek) is trying to change that. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio’s Jo Ingles, Austria explains his legislation that would establish those standards. The Ohio Senate passed similar legislation sponsored by Austria last year, but the measure got tied up in the House and was not passed before session ended in December. Austria expects this measure will be easily approved by the House and Senate in coming months.
