This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

| Justice admits to drinking on tapes from troopers' cars. |

Ohio Supreme Court Justice Alice Robie Resnick has admitted to drunk driving charges in Bowling Green this afternoon, and will lose her driver's license for about six months. The justice was pulled over last Monday after several calls came in to law enforcement about a suspected drunk driver on I-75. She was confronted at a gas station, then drove away, and was pulled over again a few miles later. Resnick is heard on tape from inside a sergeant's car as he drove her to the patrol station in Findlay, pleading for troopers to let her go and protesting her arrest.
Resnick says she had not been drinking, and that the last time she'd had anything to drink was - quoting her - "a very long time ago". But when she agreed to a field alcohol test, she admitted on the tape that she "did have something to drink". She's also heard saying that she's the only Democrat holding statewide office, and - quoting her again - "you're forcing me to retire". |
