This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

The U.S. EPA says 33 Ohio counties don't meet the standards of the federal Clean Air Act when it comes to fine-particle pollution. Heidi Griesmer with the Ohio EPA says that's a higher number of counties than the Ohio EPA determined were not in compliance. The EPA says areas with high levels of fine particle pollution are unhealthy for people to breathe, but especially for those with lung disease, older adults and children. Fine-particle pollution is blamed on power plants, industry and diesel-powered vehicles. Griesmer can't say for now what this will mean in terms of more regulation. |
