An advocate for children and mental health programs is making a personal appeal to lawmakers who are considering how to spend tax dollars in the face of a tight budget. Gayle Channing Tenenbaum lobbies for the Public Children’s Services Association of Ohio. But in a hearing before an Ohio house of representatives committee that’s considering cuts to mental health services, Tennebaum told her own story about how she grew up without getting mental health care she needed. She told the lawmakers that it has had a profound effect on her mental health as an adult. Channing Tenebaum is one of many people who are trying to put a face on possible budget cuts in hopes of convincing lawmakers to spare social service programs that are on the chopping block. |
