Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Ohio's jobless rate jumps dramatically.
By Bill Cohen - March 18, 2005
Ohio’s official unemployment has just jumped substantially…but jobs officials say the news isn’t as bad as it looks. The jobless rate for February stands at 6.4 per cent, up from January’s rate of 5.9 per cent. 31-thousand extra people joined the unemployment lines last month. But a state official who tracks the numbers says the bigger numbers don’t mean there’s been a lot of job losses. Bruce Madson is the number two man at the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services; he spoke with Ohio Public Radio's Bill Cohen. While Madson sees signs of an Ohio economic rebound, the state’s unemployment rate is now a full percentage point above the national average.
