Gas prices have spiked dramatically in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. And Ohio's Attorney General says he's watching and listening for reports of gouging. Jim Petro says his office has received more than 300 calls from drivers concerned about high gas prices, but so far, he's not convinced merchants are behaving illegally. AAA says the average for a gallon of self-serve unleaded in Ohio is $2.65, but it's over 3 dollars a gallon in many places. Gas station owners in Ohio and other states were sued after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Some charged customers as much as 6 dollars a gallon, and were prosecuted even after apologizing and offering refunds. |
