Ohio businesses – large and small alike – have a deadline coming up in a week. Because of a massive overhaul of the state’s tax structure, companies are being told they need to register some basic information with the state tax DEPARTMENT. The old corporate franchise tax and a special tax on equipment and inventories are being phased out, and a new tax – on gross sales – is being phased in. It’s called CAT – the commercial activity tax. Ohio’s top tax COLLECTOR, tax commissioner Bill Wilkins, is urging companies to get in touch with his agency. He talked about the requirement with statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen.
