This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

The Akron-area man who raped and murdered two young women in the mid 80s met with one of his victim's brothers before being put to death this morning. 43 year old Glenn Benner, originally of Tallmadge, died by lethal injection for killing 26 year old Cynthia Sedgewick in 1985 and 21 year old Trina Bowser in 1986. Jeff Ortega is the bureau chief for Dix Newspapers, and was a media witness to Benner's execution. Benner had blamed drugs for the murders of Bowser, who was a childhood friend, and Sedgewick, who was killed after a concert at Blossom Music Center. Benner is the 20th man to be put to death since Ohio resumed executions in 1999. |
