Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Lawmakers running for Senate have different takes on State of the Union speech.
By Karen Kasler - January 31, 2006
Two long-serving members of Congress had plenty to say about President Bush's State of the Union address. U.S. Sen. Mike Dewine (R-OH) says he was pleased to hear the president speak about oil.

Rep. Sherrod Brown (D-OH 18th) of Lorain, who’ll face Dewine this fall if he wins the primary against Iraq veteran Paul Hackett, had a different take on Bush’s comments.

Bush called for increased federal research into alternative fuels such as ethanol made from weeds or wood chips instead of corn. As for Bush’s comments on strengthening ethical standards, Dewine says all Americans expect Congress to pass ethics legislation. Brown says lobbyists and big companies help fuel the corruption in Congress.
