Ohioans still reporting sickness related to bad spinach.
By Jo Ingles - September 29, 2006
Ohioans are still complaining of illness that experts think is connected to tainted spinach. Ohio Department of Health spokesman Kristopher Weiss says the calls are still coming in about sicknesses that seem to be the result of eating fresh spinach that may be linked to the E.coli bacteria blamed in illnesses across the country.

Experts estimate 187 people in 26 states have been sickened by this strain of E.coli, including 134 women and 18 children. Weiss says there have not been any deaths in Ohio that have been confirmed to be caused by E.coli in fresh spinach.

Meanwhile, a Bowling Green family is seeking at least $100,000 in damages in a lawsuit against a California spinach processing company. Roger Drummond and Laura Snider say they and their three children became ill in late August and early September after eating packages of organic spinach salad. Their attorney says the youngest, a one-year-old girl, suffered permanent kidney damage and will require life-long care.
