Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

League of Women Voters backing one of this fall's ballot issues on smoking.
By Jo Ingles - October 6, 2006
The Ohio League of Women Voters is giving its approval to one of the measures on the ballot that deals with smoking in public places. League spokeswoman Jerolyn Barbee says her group is supporting the measure that would ban smoking in all public places. In an interview with Ohio Public Radio's Jo Ingles, Barbee outlines the group's reasons for supporting the proposal backed by health groups.

Voters might still see an issue on the ballot that would repeal some parts of the newly passed worker's compensation reform law if backers of that plan win court approval. The league is not taking a stand on that issue.
