Order Online : "The State of Ohio"

Corn yield reaches all time high, but some worry the effect that will have on consumers.
By Bill Cohen - January 16, 2007
Ohio corn farmers have broken their old record for corn production. The U.S. Department Agriculture estimates that last year, Ohio farmers harvested an average of 159 bushels of corn per acre, a new all-time high. Ohio Public Radio's Bill Cohen talked about the new record with an official of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation, Joe Corneally.

Corn isn't the only crop where Ohio farmers are seeing high yields. The Agriculture Department estimates that last year, the average soybean yield was 47 bushels per acre. That ties a record high, set in 2004.
