Watch This Week's "The State of Ohio" Online
Order Online : "The State of Ohio"
This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Though it's across the country, Ohio food banks may feel the effects of the cold in California.
By Karen Kasler - January 22, 2007
Ohioans are suffering in the cold weather this week, and not just by going outside. Hunger activists say supplies of oranges and other citrus fruits - and especially orange juice - are expected to drop off after a cold snap caused an estimated billion dollars in damage to California's citrus crop. Lisa Hamlar-Fugitt with the Ohio Association of Second Harvest Food Banks says those losses will hit Ohio's food pantries hard.

Strawberries, celery, onions and leafy greens grown in California are also expected to suffer from the cold snap. But some fruit growers are saying peaches, cherries, apples and grapes are doing especially well in the bitter weather.
