Former state senator promoted to leader of state's colleges and universities.
By Bill Cohen - March 7, 2007
Ohio may soon have a new person overseeing state-supported universities. Members of the Board of Regents say they plan to appoint former State Senator Eric Fingerhut as the new Chancellor. Will the appointment make much difference in Ohio's system of higher education that's been blasted for its high tuition bills? That's the question statehouse correspondent Bill Cohen is pressing Fingerhut on. Here's part of an interview.

Eric Fingerhut will become the new chancellor over higher education at the same time legislators debate changing the bureaucracy that oversees state-supported universities in Ohio. Some lawmakers say the board of regents itself isn't really necessary, and they say the chancellor should - in the future - be appointed by the governor.
