Ohio's Congressional representatives say the White House announcement of $17.4 billion in emergency loans for the domestic auto industry is a relief for the state. Senator Sherrod Brown says it's good news, though the Democrat says much of the burden is left on the shoulders of hard-working men and women. Republican Senator George Voinovich says he is pleased the President stepped in.
Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown said in a statement: "This decision averted an economic catastrophe for the industry, and potentially for the economy. I am pleased that conditions for funding include an end to CEO bonuses and perks such as corporate jets. It is unfortunate, however, that so much of the burden remains on the shoulders of hard working men and women."
An estimated 250,000 Ohioans work in the auto industry. |
