This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Lawmaker wants to put the brakes on some colleagues taking too much in mileage reimbursement.
By Jo Ingles - December 14, 2009
When Ohio lawmakers travel to and from Columbus for legislative sessions, their mileage is reimbursed. But one state lawmaker thinks it's time to change the way those reimbursements are handled. Rep. Jennifer Garrison says some members of the legislature have homes in both their legal residence and Columbus. So when those lawmakers come to session from their Columbus home, Garrison says the rule should make clear they are not given mileage reimbursement from their legal residence.

Garrison says legislators are currently paid about $.45 a mile but she says that amount fluctuates when gas prices changed significantly.

Rep. Jennifer Garrison (D-Marietta) (:20)
