Ohio's worst mine disaster remembered eight decades after it happened.

Eighty years ago, 82 coal miners were killed in Athens County in an explosion at the Millfield Mine. The disaster was remembered this past weekend at a ceremony, as it is every year. Also over the weekend, a new Coal Mining Museum was dedicated in nearby Buchtel. Rich Pawlian of Hocking College helped with the project.


The Millfield Mine Disaster is the worst in Ohio history.
