This week on "The State of Ohio": State lawmakers consider what they can do in the wake of the horrible and yet miraculous escape story out of Cleveland involving three women held prisoner in a house for a decade. New data shows more than half of all violent crimes are committed by a very small numbers of offenders. Lawmakers are now working to target that tiny group. And more thoughts on legislation that would dramatically change rules on unions in Ohio.

Democrat asks ethics commission to check into specifics of sale of prisons.
By Jo Ingles - March 17, 2011
Gov. John Kasich’s proposed budget includes a proposal that would sell off five state prisons to private companies for an estimated total gain of $200 million. Democratic Rep. Matt Lundy says he’s concerned about that, .especially because the head of the prisons department once worked for one of the largest private prison systems in the country. Lundy says that’s why he’s asking the Ohio Ethics Commission to step in.

But Carlo LaParo, a spokesman for the Ohio Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation says Lundy’s concerns are unfounded.

LaParo says prisons director Gary Mohr does not own stock in Corrections Corporation of America, the prison company he once worked for.

Rep. Matt Lundy (D-Elyria) (:21)
