Low Scores. |

Governor Bob Taft is defending his "Ohio Reads" program, the one that has attracted thousands of reading tutors to volunteer in schools. The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that a year ago, schools that used the special reading program had the same drop in reading-test scores that others schools had. The governor says that's an unfair observation. He says the paper should have waited to look at more recent test scores that have risen dramatically across Ohio. Governor Taft's Democratic challenger is not enthusiastic about the Ohio Reads program. Tim Hagan says during the current state budget crunch, Taft's reading program should not be a high priority. |
