Ohio congressman picked to be top US trade agreements salesman.
By Karen Kasler - March 17, 2005
President Bush has picked Cincinnati Congressman Rob Portman as US Trade Representative. The 49 year old Republican's name had previously come up as a possible candidate for Ohio governor. Portman will serve as the chief salesman for free-trade agreements, working with Congress on a Central American Free Trade Agreement and with global trade experts with the World Trade Organization. The US trade imbalance was a record 617 billion dollars last year, and economists predict another record trade gap this year.
