Gov. John Kasich spent the entire day in northeast Ohio, but none of that time was spent at the Republican National Convention, which he helped lobby to bring to Cleveland two years ago. And the former presidential contender says he doesn’t intend to.
John Kasich spoke to delegates from Michigan, at an economic forum and at a reception with his supporters at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But at a low-key talk before the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, he finally talked a little more about why he won’t go to the RNC. “I am thrilled to be in Cleveland. I’m having the time of my life. It’s just not for me to go to that because that’s not where I think I need to be in terms of what I have stood for through the presidential campaign,” Kasich said.
Kasich made his comments just as Donald Trump secured the nomination during the roll call floor vote at the Q – but Kasich said he hadn’t planned it that way. There’s evidence of a rift between Kasich and nominee Donald Trump, whose campaign has said Kasich is embarrassing Ohio by not endorsing him.
