Gov. John Kasich has signed into law a contentious bill that places more rules on payday lenders. It limits how much interest short term loan providers can charge and requires lenders to rein in practices that have been known to leave borrowers with crushing revolving debt. But that bill isn’t the only big piece of legislation Kaisch has signed into law.
One new law will allow counties throughout Ohio to purchase voting equipment. Another will give restaurant owners throughout Ohio the opportunity to allow dogs on outside patios. Another increases the penalty for a moving violation for driving while distracted if a cell phone was being used at the time. Kasich also signed a bill that makes changes in criminal sentencing to focus more on rehabilitation. And there is also a new law that eliminates the requirement of holding a special election to fill a vacancy in a party nomination for a congressional seat under certain circumstances.
