Spending In Portman, Strickland Race In Top Five Nationwide

Politicians are making one last push to get their message out to voters in the last weekend before Election Day. For many candidates, this is when they might be running on depleted resources. But there’s one particular Ohio candidate that still has a well-stocked war chest.

The U.S. Senate race between Republican Sen. Rob Portman and Democratic former Gov. Ted Strickland is one of the most expensive races in the country.

The tally heading into the final weekend before the election has reached nearly $84 million, that’s according to OpenSecrets.org. And a majority of that pot is filled by outside spending, way more for Portman than for Strickland.

Portman has $5 million on hand while Strickland only has half a million.

The Ohio Senate race is in the top five most expensive races in the country.

At the top spot is Pennsylvania, where its Senate race has generated more than $161 million.
