About The Ohio Newsroom
Journalism that unites, uplifts, and connects Ohio
Our Mission: Bridging Ohio’s News Gap

The Ohio Newsroom is a groundbreaking collaboration of Ohio’s public media stations. We provide fact-based, community-centered journalism that reaches every corner of the state. Our work ensures Ohioans stay informed, engaged, and connected—especially in regions underserved by traditional media.
But we’re different from the news you are used to. Our stories reflect the heartbeat of Ohio—stories that uplift, inspire, and connect. We highlight community resilience, innovation, and everyday heroes. Whether it’s a teacher transforming lives in a rural classroom or an artist cleaning a waterway by making paint from sludge, we tell stories that remind Ohioans who we are, what we share, and what’s possible when we are connected.
We’re not just filling gaps. We’re building bridges—between communities, across divides, and toward a stronger civic future.
Powered by Public Media
With the initial support of the George Gund Foundation and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, The Ohio Newsroom was born from a vision of statewide connection. What began as a feasibility study is now a powerful, growing service supported by 84 journalists and anchored by public radio stations in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, and Yellow Springs. Every day, our signature broadcast, Today From The Ohio Newsroom, airs statewide—on the radio, online, and as a podcast—reaching more than 700,000 Ohioans each week.
Our Five Pillars
The stories we tell—and how we tell them—are grounded in five core principles:
- Cover Stories from Ohio’s News Deserts
We focus our reporting where it’s needed most—rural and underserved communities overlooked by commercial media. - Go Deeper and Connect Communities
We add statewide context to local stories, helping Ohioans see how their experiences reflect broader challenges and solutions. - Celebrate Culture and Resilience
We tell stories of hope, pride, and local ingenuity that strengthen community identity. - Amplify Unheard Voices
We center on all our voices to ensure every Ohioan is reflected in our journalism. - Bring Ohio into the National Conversation
We surface ideas and stories from Ohio that matter nationally, connecting our state to the broader American narrative.
Our Impact
- We amplify local voices
- We connect communities across divides
- We highlight real solutions to shared problems
- We rebuild trust in journalism
- We represent a model for the future of public service media
Our approach is collaborative, nonpartisan, and community-first. We’re here to inform, empower, and reflect Ohio—urban, rural, and everything in between.
