Republican presidential candidate Gov. John Kasich blasted President Obama’s speech last night, though he seemed to agree in part with one point of it earlier on Sunday. Ohio Public Radio’s Karen Kasler reports.
Kasich said in a statement last night that Obama’s strategy is not enough, and – quoting Kasich - Without taking the fight to ISIS on the ground, ISIS won’t be defeated. Earlier Kasich seemed to agree with at least one of Obama’s ideas in an appearance on CNN’s “State of the Union”: “On the no-fly list, we probably could keep them from getting guns and ought to ban them.”
But Kasich added that could tip off someone who might be planning a terrorist event that investigators are tracking, so he said “we have to be careful”, and that he's opposed to using other terrorist watch lists in restricting gun purchases. Kasich also said in his statement after the Obama speech: “When terrorists threaten us, our response can’t be to target our own constitutional rights.”
