Drugged Driving Is On The Rise

Ohio Department of Transportation Facebook page

The familiar mantra of “don’t drink and drive” is heard all year, and especially during every holiday season. But driving under the influence of drugs is becoming more common.

The Ohio Department of Transportation’s Matt Bruning says drunk drivers are a big problem. But he says safety officials are concerned because the number of people driving under the influence of drugs is increasing.

“Just in the last four years, from 2012 and now, we have seen a 25% increase in the number of drugged driving crashes.”

Bruning says there have been more than 11,000 impaired driving crashes in Ohio so far this year. And he says 33% of those involved drivers who were under the influence of drugs.
