Former First Lady Frances Strickland on the plane to Philadelphia for the DNC

The former first lady of Ohio, Frances Strickland, traveled alone to the Democratic National Convention. She says her husband – former Gov. Ted Strickland – will arrive later in the week. But she says she was determined to be at the DNC on day one.

“He didn’t know what his schedule was, but I was going to be where we were making history, whether he could come or not. I’m old enough that I know what all women have gone through to get to this, so I’m really happy to be here.”

Ted Strickland, who’s on the ballot this fall in a tough race against incumbent Republican Sen. Rob Portman, is a Clinton delegate at the convention.
