Nearly 1.8 million Ohioans have already voted, and more than 11,000 people voted early this year than did in before Election Day in 2012.
Early voting by mail was down. But in person voting was up – in fact, more than 102,000 in person voters set record in Republican-run Butler and Warren Counties, and more than 330,000 set record in Franklin and Hamilton Counties, which voted Democratic in the last two presidential elections.
But Republican Secretary of State Jon Husted says it wasn’t up as much as he expected. “When you consider that early voting has become more popular and voters have become more comfortable with it over the course of time, you would think that number would have grown.” And Husted says based on that, he thinks Election Day turnout won't be robust.
